Re: Connect-SrmServer fails when -RemoteCredential is used

I recently upgraded to PowerCLI 11.3 and started running into the same issues with "Unable to connect to the remote server".  I thought it was related to 11.3 in particular, but when I went to the Module folder for SRM, I had two folders, one for a Version 10.x and one for 11.2

Get-Module VMware.VimAutomation.Srm -ListAvailable | Select ModuleBase

I went to the entire Module folder and deleted all of the VMware folders and installed the 11.0 version as a test
Install-Module -Name VMware.PowerCLI -RequiredVersion 11.0.0.10380590
With this I was able to connect to both SRM sites without error. I then upgraded through each release version and it continued working.  I think ultimately there was a conflict with the two folders in the VMware.VimAutomation.Srm module folder and manually deleting all of the VMware modules and installing only the latest resolved the issue for me on two different computers.

Re: Various Syslog Questions - vSphere 6.7 & LogInsight

We've seen TCP and/or TLS result in the syslog daemon crashing or needing a bounce every once in a while... im just curious for folks using RELP-- if there's much success with it over TCP?  Also, I don't see any typical port people use with RELP?  Does it require changes to the VCSA firewalls?

Thank you! That's what I was looking for.

Procedure for declaring DR using SRA

Hi,

When we declare DR in SRM we understand that primary storage will not replicate data to secondary storage.

Question 1:

But in a NOT DR scenario, a synchronously synchronized storage, can I use the SRM (Test) option without having to disable storage synchronization?

Question 2:

I want to simulate a DR scenario in real practice.

Knowing this is not a true DR, as I will actually simulate the production VM shutdown before declaring DR in SRM, do I have to disable or pause synchronous synchronization?

Thank you.

MAC OS X Menu Bar

Hi, I'm was wandering whether it is possible to enable a menu bar option that allows me to easily access running VM's rather than having to keep going back to the main Virtual Machine Library.

I've seen this on numerous videos but that has been using VMWare Workstation rather than Fusion

Virtual machines aren't shown in the dock along with other running applications, so if there was an option to access each VM from the main (top) menu bar or dock then that would be really useful

I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.14.6.

By the way I'm using VMWare Fusion 10.1.6 Professional

Thanks in advance

Error "Setup failed to generate the SSL keys necessary to run VMware Server"

I need to install VMServer 2.02-293138 onto another Windows 7 64bit PC...I cannot get past the Error "Setup failed to generate the SSL keys necessary to run VMware Server" ... I do not even need/want the SSL connection to the management console...I only connect to the VMware Server console on the PC that is running the software.  I have tried the suggestions that i hove found doing Google searches including remove all files from Windows\Temp, verified that there were no other copies of openssl.exe on the PC, removed Windows Security Essentials, turned off the Windows Firewall for Private and Public, logging onto Windows as Administrator...

Are there any logs that can be examined to see why it is failing?

Can VMware Server be installed without needing the SSL key installed?

Re: Failback with SPPG

Hi,

I performed a planned one.

I haven't reached this re-protection stage yet. I remember this option in training.

But my question is in rebuilding the main site, in case of a shutdown of the main site.

Imagine that I turned everything off at the main site and did a planned DR. Just hung up, didn't erase anything.

That is, do I have to reinstate the main site first (clean) to enable reprotec?

My goal is to show the end user how it works using a test server.

I want to show the end user what planned DR and reprotection will look like, but using only one test server.

Thank you.

Re: Retrieving AD policy from business group?

This worked out great!

I am able to get the DN using the AD policy name. Once I get the code cleaned up a bit and add some error handling I'll post it.

Multiple VM's with the same hard drive ID as the Host?

Is it a ok to have Multiple VM's with the same hard drive ID as the Host?  I have software that binds itself to the Host Hard Drive ID and want to utilize the same license on my VM's.

Re: Workstation Player USB 3.0 unable to select on the controller

The virtual hardware version must be high enough for support of USB 3.0.  Check the version / Workstation compatibility setting.  Note that if you need to change this, the guest OS must be shut down, not just suspended.

Re: vROps 7.5 app remote collector agent install fails

Hi all,

The remote collector appliance must have access to the internet.

I fixed it configuring proxy in the remote collector appliance.

You have to edit the file: “/etc/sysconfig/proxy”.

Re: After Software Updates Via SCCM Some Persistent Desktops Go Agent Unreachable

So it looks like the Horizon View Agent is trying to request a Changekey with the server.  Logs on the server show:
[DesktopTracker] CHANGEKEY message from agent/{some long guid} is discarded as it cannot be validated

[JMSMessageSecurity] Message could not be validated: Signature invalid for identity agent/{long guid}

[JMSMessageSecurity] Identity validation failed: UNKNOWN

This seems to be the same issue as is described in this article:

VMware Knowledge Base

Presumably we could run a key reset to get the machine working again as well.

The question is why does running software updates on the machine and rebooting it cause this to happen occasionally.

Re: vCenter 5.5 to 6.5 Migration Assistant Error

RajeevVCP4 unfortunately, the same error has manifested with the 5.5 to 6.0 U1a upgrade.

Re: vCenter 5.5 to 6.5 Migration Assistant Error

This is the webclient SSL cert? Or is there another cert that I should check and verify?

From the 5.5 vCenter server (embedded PCS), connected with openssl and dumped the SSL cert chain (from the web client @ https://<FQDN>:9443). Opened it in Windows cert manager and verified that the FQDN was correct and that the cert had not expired (expires 2022). Also from the vCenter server, checked by pinging the FQDN to ensure that the IP resolves correctly. I even manually edited the Window's host file to include the IP and FQDN.

Re: vCenter 5.5 to 6.5 Migration Assistant Error

I was unable to determine the root cause for the weird VXPD/302 errors and opted instead to provision a new 6.5 vCenter appliance and manually migrating over the ESXi hosts. This required a bit more work (initial setup of vCenter, replication of permission/folders/etc, temporarily breaking HA) but as we do not have any distributed switches or DRS/resource pools, manual migration was the best route the get the issue resolved.

Thanks for you help

Same issue here. Ubuntu 19.04, Horizon Client 4.x used to work perfectly. 5.0 crashed when launching the remote desktop, and 5.1 shows a black screen instead.

Re: Smart card timeout whether using shared or passthrough USB config for reader

Update:

Installed the manufacturer's smart card reader driver into the VM and updated the device to use the manufacturer's driver instead of the generic Microsoft driver. VM detects the reader in both shared and passthrough modes, but the smart card is no longer detected by the guest.

I decided to load the VM image into VMware Workstation Player 15 out of curiosity and the smart card was detected.

I am still unable to determine why the smart card isn't able to be accessed by VMware Workstation Pro 15. Next step is to reinstall Workstation Pro 15.

/var full, which logs are safe to remove/zero out

I have esxi 6.7 running on HPE blades. /var is full. I found 2 log files, /var/log/tallylog (32064) and /var/run/SDRR_LOCAL (16384) bytes in size of the total 49152byte size of /var. Which are these are safe to zero out (cat /dev/null > tallylog, and SDRR_LOCAL) during running?
